Two Ways To Look At Inconsistency

You watch enough sports and you see two charateristics pop up with really good teams.

• They beat bad teams with authority.

• They win when they don’t play well.

For the last 10 games the Pens have alternated wins and loses. Although they have yet to really stink up the joint or drop one to a really bad team, it does reveal something about the character of the team. I just don’t know what…

It could mean that even with the insane play of Malkin and Crosby, the rest of the Eastern Conference is far tougher then we expected and it will be tough sledding for the remainder of the season. This would mean we are, to this point, overestimating how good the Pens are.

OR…

It could be that injuries have caught up with us on the blue line (not to mention Kennedy and Ziggy) and this is the Pens slogging through a valley. This means that as they get healthier, we can expect them to do better, no bad considering they haven’t put together back-to-back loses. That would mean, to this point, we are underestimating how good they can be.

OR…

You can trace the inconsistency back to one moment in time. The begining of this streak was November 15th against Buffalo. What happened then?

MAF had been streaky yet effective during his opening games this season. But sometimes players just play better at certain times in front of certain goal tenders. The good news: he returned to practice today.

Save the Flower. Save the world.
